More Cheap Entertainment :>)
This was one determined little girl!!! Kaidyn spent the longest time trying so hard to get a bite of this apple. Her heart was set on the fact that she was going to eat this apple just like her sisters did. But being that she has only three teeth on the bottom, I don't think it was humanly possible. I took so many pictures, I had to make a slide show out of it. Notice that she starts out standing and then figures out it may be awhile so she has a seat. What a test of patience!!

We need a nurse!
I am not much of a nurse when it comes to my kids. Panic sets in a bit. Today I thought I had a baby with a broken nose and a 5 year old with an anaphylactic reaction. I am still thinking we may have a broken nose. Kaidyn fell down (her one of many falls during the day) in the kitchen on the tile floor and did a header into the bar stool's metal leg. She immediately had a black and blue bruise between her eyes. After just a minute or so of crying she just let me hold her while she stared at the t.v. This is what concerned me most since she is one active little girl and doesn't ever sit still! She seemed to snap out of it and I talked myself out of calling the doctor. I figured they would review information on a concussion and tell me they couldn't do anything for a broken nose.
Poor little girl, her first major injury other than falling down the stairs twice. Yes, we purchased a gate but only for the top of the stairs. I guess we figured she wouldn't learn to climb them but the day after we put the gate at the top she was right up there. We have never had such an active child!! We never even used a gate on the stairs with the other two girls and I don't remember Kestyn ever even trying to get into a cupboard. She was content just to sit and play with her toys. Kaidyn on the other hand doesn't even need toys; she enjoys interior decorating by rearranging picture frames and knickknacks way more!!

Kestyn had her first day of cooking class at school today. Here she is displaying her creation of bagels with cooked apples and cheese. I must say it was pretty tasty; not a combination of foods I would choose to put together. Her teacher takes the Kindergarten class to the cafeteria every Thursday for cooking class. Sounds like a nightmare to me, clearly her teacher is a saint. Kestyn absolutely loves it and really seems to think she can make anything now.

After we picked Kestyn up at school, we decided to play outside for a bit. I keep telling the kids there is not much summer left so we should be outside as much as possible. Kestyn was rolling around in the grass and a few minutes later I noticed she kept scratching her legs and arms. It was pretty constant. It took her about 10 minutes to realize she needed to say something because the fingernails just were not cuttin it. She had a bright red rash everywhere except where her clothes were. Jason has always been allergic to grass so I figured she had developed the same allergy. She mentioned that her tongue was itchy so I immediately pulled out the benadryl and hydrocortisone cream. Within an hour; all was well.

First Day of School 2008
Kendalyn and Kestyn both had their first day of school on Wednesday. Kestyn started Kindergarden and Kendalyn is in the second grade. They are both at the same school which is great for me. They are very excited to be back in school. It is so nice that they love school; I hope that lasts forever! Summer is over; a little bitter sweet for me; I was kind of liking sleeping in a bit and not having to be on such a schedule. Now it is back to the morning drill Sargent mode. :>) It will be nice to have some quiet alone time with Kaidyn while the girls are gone.

Camping with a Baby, Yeah, we're crazy!!
We borrowed my dad's trailer and took the girls camping for a week in July. The older girls had a great time. Kaidyn was pretty much treated like an animal and caged for the week. She was at the stage where you can't just put her down to walk; she needed some assistance holding on to objects that just aren't around when you are camping. She could only cruise around the inside of the trailer so many times. And she was not a happy camper being in the playpen. You take for granted the routines of normal life and all of the amendities you have within reach in your own home. So we tried the best we could to be busy during the day to wear the kids out so nighttime was filled with some good sleep; which it was.
We started out spending the first night on Mt. Hood which worked out nicely not having to drive too far that first day. Then we traveled the next day to The Cove State Park with plans to stay there for 3 nights. Within the first 10 minutes of arriving, we began discussing leaving the next day, which we did. Our campsite was just a small area of dust/dirt with no grass in site. Not feasible for a baby who wants to crawl around and a dog who had bandages on both back legs with strict instructions to keep his feet clean and dry (I'll blog more about that whole ordeal in another post) We did take advantage of the swimming at Lake Billy Chinook which is absolutely beautiful and if we had a boat we would have just spent the three days on the water.
So it was onto Crooked River Ranch. It was perfect for us. Nice green grass. Swimming pool for the kids, golf for Jason, area for Harley our dog, play structure, place to ride bikes, a restaurant not too far away. I know doesn't really sound like camping. Also, I am really embarrassed to say there was wi-fi. I know completely rediculous surfing the net while camping. But what can I say, I had to sit in the trailer while the baby took her two naps a day; what else is a girl to do?? I also did do a lot of reading. Anyway, I had spent a lot of time at Crooked River as a child because my Grandma lived there so it was nice to go back. I still am in amazement about a hike we took to Steelhead Falls which was one of the most beautiful places I have ever been to in Central Oregon. It was just a couple of miles from my Grandma's house and over the 13 years I traveled there; nobody had ever mentioned it. I still need to find out if she didn't know about it or what?? Just crazy to me. We did some geocaching which is always fun and such a hit with the girls. Jason took the girls on a pretty grueling hike that was about 3 miles or so. Kestyn told me on our hike to Stealheed Falls the next day which wasn't an easy hike, "Daddy told me he wouldn't take me on anymore hikes because I complain too much". This comment came at the point where she really wanted to complain but knew she better not. Such a trooper!!
We had a great time even with our sweet little caged animal. I figure that will be our most difficult camping trip; they are all downhill from here. If we would have had to tent camp I can truly say I wouldn't have made it a week. I don't even know if you can call what we did camping. :>)

Major Milestones
In the past month we have had a few milestones with the girls.
On July 31st, Kaidyn turned one!! She didn't get much of a celebration. We were in Sunriver at the time; Jason had work meetings and the girls and I just hung out. I went to the Sunriver grocery store to buy stuff to make a cake but realized it was going to cost about $25.00 to get everything I would need so I opted to buy one piece of unfrosted cake and a candle so we could at least sing happy birthday and let her dig in. We blew up a bunch of balloons that she enjoyed playing with. I still feel like I should do something for her. Not that she is complaining but the big sisters had quite a celebration on their first birthdays. What is bad is I still have yet to buy her a present. But really we are not lacking toys at our house, her college account has been established and she is one happy, cared for girl so that is all that really matters, right? Although she has been taking steps and walking cautiously since about 9 months old, it was on her birthday that she decided to really take off. So we are in full baby proof mode at our house. Drawers and cupboards get emptied on an hourly basis.
Kestyn learned how to ride a bike after only 2 or 3 short lessons with Dad. She caught on very quickly although she seems to doubt her abilities to do many things. I think Kendalyn has done a little too much for her over the years. Kestyn still loves to ride the tag along bike and make dad do all of the work. Oh........how I wish at times I could ride on that tag along!
Kendalyn FINALLY lost a tooth!! I was thinking it wasn't going to happen until she was a teenager. She will be seven next month and was the only one in her class last year to have not lost a tooth. She was a brave girl and pulled it out herself. She has not wanted to leave it for the tooth fairy because she wants to keep it. She also commented, "if I wait until I have a few to leave for the tooth fairy at one time, I will probably get more money." Grandma Hudson suggested she write the tooth fairy a note asking her to leave the tooth with the money. I am sure she would comply.

Operation Back Hair
Wow, look what I walked into today. I actually acted like I didn't see anything turned around and scrambled looking for my camera. I HAD to capture a picture of this!!! Yes, Jason had each of the older girls with tweezers in hand plucking his back hair. Just hilarious or should I say gross! I sat and watched after I snuck a picture. Kestyn said to Kendalyn very excited, "look at all of this hair down here", pointing to his lower back, side area (love handle area which are now gone from his dedication to working out for the past month). Kendalyn replied very matter of fact, "that is suppose to be there". I couldn't help but laugh out loud as they continued to work on his upper back. Too cute and I am sure in a few more years they wouldn't be caught dead doing this!! And fortunately there wasn't too many hairs that I had to pull out the vacuum cleaner.
Scrapbooking No More :>(
I have surrendered. Everyday I think about scrapbooking. I am not even joking. It is constantly in the back of my mind that I would love to take about an hour each day and scrapbook. When you have a small room in your house dedicated for just scrapbooking and have more supplies than you could use in your lifetime, you wouldn't think it would be so hard to do. Well, it is. Especially since little Miss Kaidyn Jean came into our lives. But before she was even a twinkle in my eye, I must be honest and say the room has not been used more than a handful of times in the five years we have lived here. Pretty pathetic I know!! So I guess there is no blaming her. I am about 6 years plus behind. Kendalyn and Kestyn both have first year baby books which I had to make into two huge 4 inch thick albums each for their first year because of the rediculous amount of pictures I take. And I truly have a problem thinking I need to use every single picture that I take. But since my digital camera world transpired about three years ago I do have a lot less pictures because if it is a bad picture or if I captured a better one, I delete it. So now that Kaidyn has turned one and I have not even scrapbooked one page for her, I came to the conclusion that it just isn't going to happen at least not any time soon.
To pat myself on the back a bit, I have been good about getting my photos printed and keeping them nice and organized by dates with the subjects listed on the outside of each packet. So they are all prepared sitting in boxes ready to be scrapbooked. But, mmm, maybe they won't be of use because in the next few years I may pursue digital scrapbooking and actually sitting down at a table cropping, cutting, pasting, stickering, embellishing and journaling will be a thing of the past. I can just sit on the couch as I am now; laptop in front of me and click, drag, type and print out my scrapbook pages without ever having to use any of the supplies that I have hoarded in the past 12 years of scrapbooking. So if that happens or should I say when that happens because I must admit with how computers are taking over our lives it will; I will be be giving away lots of supplies and I can just change my little scrapbook room into a workout area.
So hence this blog, it has been created to make me feel better and allow me to surrender my scrapbooking hobby, at least for the time being. I figure if I can try and blog each week or two including pictures, I can give my girls this in place of scrapbooks and it will be a lot more personal because I am so bad at journaling when I do scrap. I can also keep all of our family and friends updated on our lives and those we are unable to see frequently can watch our girls grow up on this amazing thing called the world wide web. Boy, I feel a weight off of my shoulders already. Thanks for reading. Check back often and see what kind of crazy, exciting, fun and cute things are happening with the Hudson family.
